Water pipes may come with an attached downstem but most will require one. Most of the water pipes and rigs you purchase at KDK will already be equipped so you will not need to purchase a downstem separately. If your need to equip your pipe with a downstem, you can buy a separate downstem that can be attached.

How do I know what size it is?

Downstems are measured according to joint size and downstem length. Downstem length is normally measured from the top of the ground joint to the tip of the downstem.

Downstem joints are normally 10mm, 14mm or 18mm. To determine the correct size measure across the largest  part of the water pipe joint opening. Typically a dime will fit into an 18mm opening.

Types of Downstems

A classic downstem is a straight tube used to deliver smoke. This style is functional but offers no extra diffusion. A diffuser downstem uses various slits and holes to break up and cool down the smoke.
